Inspired by the turn of the twentieth centuries Art Nouveau movement our private client wanted to turn her under used formal dining room into a more function kitchen dining space where the family can come together, cook, relax and share their days experiences over the dinner table.

The room already held a lot of character with the oldest parts of the house dating back 16th century, so it was important to compliment rather than confuse with the enhancements we made to the room.

We designed the furniture with a bespoke moulding which took influence from other free-standing furniture of the time period around the house. The soft off white, hand painted cabinets mixed with he glass accents kept the room feeling spacious whilst complimenting the heavier wood tones of the floor, panelling and the ceiling. The Taj Mahal Quartzite gave a richness and warmth which was complimented by the antique brass handles, fixtures and fitting.

The islands hexagonal shape came from the need of good circulation space whilst its unsymmetrical shape gave a feeling of fluidness and its design actually changed twice throughout the installation. Good storage is achieved by two bespoke pantry cupboards either side of a free-standing fridge freezer. These are set back into a niche so they don’t protrude further into the room than is necessary. Internally the cabinets are muted which is set off perfectly by the solid walnut dovetailed drawer boxes which add a depth of character to the furniture.

This room is now very much enjoyed all day and has one of the best views over the Surrey Hills I have experienced, washing up would never be a chore again!
